Getting On in Life

I read in New Scientist last year that our life span has been increasing by 2.2 years per decade, or about 5 hours per day for the last 100 years. But most of this longer life is spent with disability, disease and dementia, as we’ve not been able to slow the ageing process or match the increase in lifespan with an equal increase healthcare. Nor will we if current health crisis’ are anything to go by.

I also read, in the same journal, that ants forage for food further a field as they get older, effectively taking more risks as they have less to lose. This selfless action benefits the overall success of the ant colony.

Putting these two ideas together, if you don’t want a drawn out lingering death then get out there and take more risks with each year that passes.
